751. SoMe Brewing Apostrophe IPA

Some Brewing Apostrophe IPASmall update to this post SoMe Brewing has started to can a few of their beers including Apostrophe IPA. I bought a 4-pack and drank it over the course of a couple weeks and the beer actually seemed to get better over the course of a couple weeks. Really easy drinking IPA with loads of Mosaic hop flavors.

Some Brewing ApostropheDave from SoMe Brewing gave me this beer to try when I met with him at The Great Lost Bear. It is one of their best selling beers and a bit different than most of the IPAs out there. All Mosaic hops for this beer but unlike many single hop beers Mosaic works well for all three components; aroma, flavor and bittering.

Apostrophe pours a deep orange with minimal head and very light on the carbonation. Aroma has lots of tropical fruits and hints of onion. Taste switches gears entirely with some pear and a bit of citrus but the beer is also very sweet. Bitterness is light for an IPA.

Overall a pleasant beer that I recommend you try.
Pros:
Mosaic hops
Cons: Needs more carbonation
Alcohol Content: 6.0% ABV

680. SoMe Brewing Crystal Persuasion

Some Brewing Crystal PersuasionHad been a while since I stopped in to see David at SoMe Brewing in York but I stopped for some samples and ended up bringing home a growler of Crystal Persuasion to enjoy. According to David this is their most popular beer and one that I have not reviewed yet. Crystal Persuasion is an imperial pale ale using Crystal hops. According to various sites Crystal hops are typically used for aroma.

The beer pours a nice copper color with a single finger white head. Aroma is very nice mix of citrus and spice. Taste follows with a nice mix of citrus and spice with only a slight bitterness. Finish is almost too clean as the flavors disappear almost immediately.

Overall a pretty good beer and certainly unique. If you have not tried SoMe Brewing you definitely should and be sure to try Crystal Persuasion.

581. SoMe Brewing Box the Compass

Some Brewing Box the CompassIf you check SoMe’s website you will see this one described as a 6.6% ABV single IPA however when Dave brewed it the first time on his new system it came out bigger than expected, MUCH BIGGER. The 6.6% became at least 9.9% (possibly more) and the beer quickly left the single IPA classification and moved to the DIPA category. I opted for a 32 ounce howler instead of bringing home a full 64 ounces of a beer this big.

The beer itself is quite good  with a deep orange color and like the other beer from SoMe Brewing a minimal head. Aroma was very sweet with loads of malts but very little in the way of hops. Taste follows with a huge malt base and a solid amount of hops but the malts are really in the forefront on this one. This is not the palate wrecking double IPA you might expect with a nearly 10% ABV.

I am pleased with the beers I have tried from SoMe Brewing and I think things will only get better as Dave spends some time with his new brew system. Keep an eye on their Facebook page and make regular visits to SoMe as I expect good things coming out of York.

577. SoMe Brewing Sweet Solstice

SoMe Brewing Sweet SolsticeMy first beer review from SoMe Brewing Company. I met Dave (the younger) there just prior to him opening and sampled all four of his offerings. Brought home a growler of this and a howler of his double IPA. Sweet Solstice is Dave’s take on a holiday beer, good for the season and low in alcohol so you can bring to a party and still be able to drive home.

This was an interesting beer with a nice light orange color. Minimal to no head and carbonation was light. Plenty of sweet spiciness in the aroma. Taste follows with the same clove spice that you get in the aroma. This beer is also quite sweet and not bitter at all. Not really my style of beer but I bought this to bring to a family Christmas party and it was well received. It will be interesting to try this beer again next year after Dave has had time to get used to his system and dial things in a bit.

Certainly a nice start for a small brewery and a beer worth trying. Check out SoMe’s Facebook page for their hours and take a trip to York.
Pros: Unique, low ABV and flavorful
Cons:
Carbonation seemed a bit off but could have just been the growler
Alcohol Content: 4.2% ABV

IBU (Bitterness): 20
