604. Pretty Things Beer Jack D’Or

Pretty Things Jack D'OrAs you can probably tell I was on a bit of a saison kick for a few days and this was the last of the bunch I drank. This one was similar but lacking the brett funk of the last two.

This one pours a light orange color with a single finger white head. Aroma has some citrus, lemon and earthy notes but overall is pretty mild. Taste follows but adds some floral hops that are not apparent in the aroma.

Pretty Things describes this a table beer, something simple, drinkable and enjoyable and I have to agree. This is an excellent beer on its own or with a meal.
Pros:

Cons:
Alcohol Content: 6.5% ABV

Brewers Description: “Jack D’Or” is a simple table beer, or “Saison Americain” as we’re referring to it. We are not trying to coin a beer style – we’re just having fun.  The Jack D’Or (pronounced “Jack Door”), is at the very center of Pretty Things and nearly three years on we’re still pleased as punch that he joined us!

525. Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project Meadowlark IPA

Pretty Things Meadowlark IPAMy second beer from Pretty Things and this is their IPA which is dangerously close to being a double at 7% ABV.

Appearance is very nice orange and thick white head that leaves a fair amount of lacing. Plenty of citrus with some grapefruit, pine and floral notes as well. Taste follows with the loads of hops but enough base malts to keep it in balance. Finish is smooth and makes this beer very drinkable even at 7% ABV.

So far I am liking their beers and you can expect to see more reviews of Pretty Things Beer in the coming months.
Pros:
Tasty and easy to drink
Cons:
Alcohol Content: 7.0% ABV

Brewers Description: Meadowlark IPA is a new juicy and floral hoppy, hoppy ale we brewed to celebrate the flavor and spirit of American craft brewing.  This 7% alcohol beer has a sunny orange-yellow colour, 85 International Bittering Units, a smooth mouthfeel and layer upon layer of soft flowery hops.  We wove earthy Citra and bitter Bravo hops from the Pacific Northwest with intensely fruity and aromatic Galaxy hops from Australia. The malts are English pale malt & mild ale malt, pale crystal (1.3% of the grist), flaked barley with malty highlights from Munich malt and a bijoux of Roasted Barley.  The resulting patchwork is as “American” tasting as short ribs and slaw, and provides an excellent accompaniment to that kind of food too!  Very hoppy and bitter.  Yum.

507. Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project Magnifico

Pretty Things MagnificoAnother new Massachusetts brewery for me but this one is easier to get as they distribute in Maine. This is a pale ale with a very low 3.4% ABV. I really enjoy these low ABV beers as you can enjoy them with dinner and not get full just from the beer.

This one looks like a pale ale should, a nice light copper color with a thick white head. Aroma is very mild with only a bit of hop and Belgian yeast coming through. The taste is also mild but well balanced and very drinkable. A nice sweet start followed by just a bit of floral hops and yeast. Overall this was exactly what I would expect from a low ABV pale ale.
Pros:
Tasty for a low ABV beer
Cons:
Alcohol Content: 3.4% ABV

Brewers Description: Do you ask, “Who is a ¡Magnifico!”?  IT IS A PITY TO ASK SUCH A QUESTION!  Dear friends Magnifico is one of our most favorite seasonal offerings -our friendliest beer ever.  In 2011 we slip him into our line-up without fuss, all by ourselves on a private world-party tour of a small part of Boston.  We swear nobody comes, but no admonishments!

This year, he says hello again my friends and this time he’s in bottle too. We love him because he’s only 3.4% alcohol by volume and perfectly full of lovely Citra, Horizon, Simcoe and Bravo hops.  He also likes barley (because you must in order to make beer).  He has Munich Malt, Crystal Malt and Maris Otter from Inglaterra.

Look at the label of ¡Magnifico!!   It’s also magnifico!  He’s just a little chico – malinki hop with a moustache gigante!  He has big heart for such small creature.  It’s the spirit of beer my friends and friendship and happiness.  And loveliness.  My friends, we hope you enjoy ¡Magnifico!(!) in the same spirit.

Oh, we nearly forget… if you drink ¡Magnifico!(!) in a bistro or cantina make sure you ask for proper glass!  Jambo!
