This will be an easy one to review as the brewery is no longer in operation so almost no information is available on this beer. I picked up this bottle in Bar Harbor at a convenience store and was not sure if this was a new brewery that I was not aware of or an old brewery that was out of business. After a bit of research I found it was a small brewery that went out of business years ago and the Granite City Pale Ale was at least 5 years old.
Not know what to expect I opened on a Sunday afternoon and was surprised at the amount of carbonation and head on a beer that has been on the shelf this long. The aroma had some malt and some fruit – almost no hop presence which is not surprising for a 5+ year old beer. In its day this was probably a middle of the road pale ale but it did not age well. Taste was medicinal with lots of malt, most of the balance was lost during aging. Overall not a bad beer but I didn’t finish it and moved on to something better.
