214. Geary’s Summer Ale

The coolest thing about this beer is the contest they do each year for the label and packaging design. This year’s winner was from Vermont and there were many nice designs. You can see them all here. Personally I like #19 the best but this is certainly a brighter and more typical label for a summer brew.

Butter, that’s right butter is the one word I would use to describe this beer. Color is a nice light orange with thick white head. Light aroma including some sweet maltiness and a bit of fruit. Nothing to great in either the aroma or appearance. Taste is crisp but still buttery which seems odd to say.. Overall not a bad beer but the ABV may be a little high for a Summer brew.

Alcohol Content: 6.0% ABV

Rating:★★★☆☆

Brewers Description: The style of our summer ale is traditionally European, similar to a German kolsch: full bodied with a spicy hop tang and a rich, crystal clear golden color.

116. Geary’s Winter Ale

This one surprised as it is listed as an IPA so I was expecting the typically hoppy beer. After pouring and seeing the nice dark color, tan head and strong fruity aroma with almost no hops I knew it was going to be different. The malts are very strong in this one and it finished with lots of chocolate flavor. Almost no hop bite. I gave this one 3.5 stars as I truly enjoyed the beer but if I were grading it within the English IPA style which it is supposed to be, the grade would be much lower.
Pros: Great flavor and aroma
Cons: Not an IPA
Alcohol Content: 6.0% ABV

Brewers Description: Geary’s Winter Ale is a hearty India Pale Ale; it has a dry maltiness with an intense floral hop finish.

114. Geary’s Pale Ale

Pale ales are great session beers, low alcohol content and easy to drink. This one is a fine example of a pale ale with a great copper color, thick white head and a complex aroma with some fruit and almost candylike sweetness. Taste has plenty of malts but is still very well balanced. Overall pretty simple when it comes to taste but most pale ales are.
Pros: Color, aroma
Cons: Simple taste but that is to be expected
Alcohol Content: 4.5% ABV

Rating: ★★★☆☆
Brewers Website: Geary’s
Brewers Description: Our flagship pale is a classic British pale ale with a nod to the legendary beers of Burton-on-Trent. Copper-colored, dry, clean and crisp with lots of late hope taste in an appetizing complex with ale fruitiness from imported Hampshire yeast.

83. Geary’s Hampshire Special Ale

Geary’s HSA has always been one of my favorites and I remember when this came in bottles with gold foil wrapped around the top. This pours a nice copper color with an almost white head. Aroma has some caramel and a bit of alcohol. Taste is complex with lots of different parts from the begining to the slightly bitter aftertaste. Solid alcohol content with just the right amount of hops and malt. I believe this is a winter seasonal from Geary’s and one that you should make every effort to try.
Pros: Complex flavor, color
Cons:
Alcohol Content: 7.0% ABV

IBU (Bitterness): ??
Rating: ★★★½☆

Brewers Description: Hampshire has a huge toasted malt flavor balanced by assertive hoppiness. The finish is long and lingering with the malt and hop notes blending with alcohol warmth.

31. Geary’s Autumn Ale

I am surprised it took me 31 beers to get to a Geary’s as they are one of my favorite local brewers. The Autumn Ale reminded me a lot of the Sebago Brewing Boathouse Brown – both are locally brewed brown ales so I guess that makes sense. The color on this one is a deep red with a nice tan head, full of flavor but still very easy to drink. Great with a meal or all on its own.
Pros: Great dark color with lots of flavor
Cons: May be a little dark for some
Alcohol Content: 5.8% ABV
