798. 14th Star Brewing Tribute

14th Star TributeVermont gets a lot of attention for its IPAs with The Alchemist (Heady), Lawson’s Finest and Hill Farmstead getting a lot of the buzz but there are several other Vermont breweries making great IPAs. A few months back I reviewed Foley Brothers Fair Maiden which was exceptional and the canned offerings from Fiddlehead; Second Fiddle and Mastermind are both excellent but getting much harder to find. You can add Tribute from 14th Star Brewing to the list of excellent beers to track down when in Vermont

Tribute pours a deep hazy orange with a thin white head. Aroma is quite balanced with some sweet malts coming through along with a nice mix of pine, tropical and citrus hops. Taste is more balanced and not as hop forward as some of those mentioned above but it still packs in a nice mix of flavors; pine, slightly resinous and some grapefruit. Finish is dry and only slightly bitter.

Overall a very nice beer and one worth seeking out next time you are in Vermont. I need to check out their new brewery as my only trip to 14th Star was in their original location.
Pros:
More balanced than most DIPAs
Cons:
Alcohol Content: 8.4% ABV
IBU (Bitterness): 65
Rating:

Brewers Description: Our Tribute Double IPA is a celebration of hops, pure and simple. A simple and smooth malt base serves as the stage for the hops to perform. Tribute has a beautiful golden color, an aroma brimming with citrusy hops, and a deliciously smooth hop flavor and dry finish.

426. 14th Star Brewing Pale Ale

14th Star Brewing Pale AleLast month when I was in Burlington I took a trip to St Albans to visit 14th Star Brewing Co. The brewery is located about 30 minutes north of Burlington and was worth the trip. I arrived around 6:00 and there was decent crowd of people tasting and getting growlers filled. I tried all 3 beers they had on tap and ended up taking home a growler of the Pale Ale.

Unfortunately after the long and very bumpy ride back to Maine the growler was flat. I believe this was due to the ride and not any fault of the brewery. I am basing my rating on the beer I tasted in the brewery and not the beer I ended up with at home. For a pale ale this one has a fair amount of citrus hops in the aroma and taste. This was a very enjoyable pale ale and I will certainly be back on my next trip to Burlington.
Pros:
Flavorful for a pale ale
Cons:
Alcohol Content: 5% ABV
