765. Ballast Point Brewing Grapefruit Sculpin
Since reviewing and then re-reviewing the original Sculpin IPA I have been on the look out for the varieties. I picked this up in Vermont a week or two before it hit the shelves in Maine. I enjoyed fresh Sculpin and expected the grapefruit would add a lot more than it did.
Appearance is a nice pale orange with a solid white head that lingered and left plenty of lacing. Aroma has plenty of grapefruit (shocking I know) but also has a nice candylike sweetness. The grapefruit is dialed back a bit in the taste but still very prominent. This beer is still very well balanced and quite refreshing.
Need to find the Habanero Sculpin now to see how that compares.

Brewers Description: Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.
