721. Maine Beer Company Sapping Mammoth

Maine Beer Sapping MammothMaine Beer Company and Half Acre Beer Company (Chicago, IL) collaborated on two beers in 2014. The first was brewed in Chicago and was called Great Plain Jane Ale and the second, Sapping Mammoth, was brewed in Freeport. One of the fun things they did with this collaboration was the artwork on Great Plain Jane Ale (see image here) is the typical Maine Beer super simple style and when it came to the label for Sapping Mammoth they let the people at Half Acre do the artwork. This made for a very interesting and unique label for a Maine Beer Company beer. Thanks to Brewbound you can see the full label here.

The label art is the only thing that moved away from the Maine Beer style as this beer is very much in line with the other Maine Beer Company beers. Appearance is a very nice orange with a bright white head that left lots of lacing on the glass. Aroma is juicy and dominated by citrus hops. Taste follows with a bright citrus start but an added layer of pine resin comes in towards to the end. My only complaint is it does seem a little thin which is normal for their beers.

Overall this is another solid beer from Maine Beer Company and if you missed it let me know as I do have a few extra bottles in the fridge.
