529. Lost Nation Gose
I believe this is my first review of a Gose (pronounced Gose-uh). If you have not had a gose in the past you should certainly give them a try. It is an old German style beer with a low ABV and a salty taste. They are also typically a bit sour and have almost no hop bitterness (this beer has an IBU of 8).
Lost Nation is a small brewery in Morrisville VT, they are actually located in a space previously occupied by Rock Art. I will do a separate post on my trip to the brewery as it is quite unique. After trying their Gose at the brewery I grabbed a growler to go. Love the rustic look of their logo and looks great on the growler.
The beer is very light in color with almost no head – I guess this is typical of the style as all three have looked the same. Tart lemon and slightly sour smell but in a very good way. Taste is where this one excels with a tangy lemon/orange with the slightly salty. Very refreshing beer and the 64 ounce growler was gone too quickly. Will certainly make Lost Nation a regular stop on future visits to Vermont.
Pros: Unique style and very refreshing
Alcohol Content: 4.5% ABV
IBU (Bitterness): 8
Brewers Website: Lost Nation Brewing
Brewers Description: A traditional German beer style that was all but extinct 30 years ago. An amazingly refreshing beer brewed with coriander and sea salt. The tart, dry finish combined with the hint of salt and citrus leaves your palate craving another sip.
