514. Ruckus Brewing Hoptimus Prime
I think I picked this beer up on a trip to Vermont but I am not sure. What I am sure of is that I bought it because of the name – Hoptimus Prime and for those that didn’t grow up with Transformers in the 80s it is a play on Optimus Prime which is a toy I had when I was a kid.
The name is great and the beer was not bad either. Pours a deep orange with a thick off white head. Aroma has some fruity hops but also a lot of malts, nothing too exciting in the aroma. Flavor is well balanced for a 9% ABV double IPA. Overall this was certainly not a bad beer but when you compare it to the big name double IPAs it just doesn’t hold up.
I bought it for the name and label but it was certainly good enough to finish the bomber.
