486. Hill Farmstead Florence
If you go to Hill Farmstead on a regular basis you know their hoppy beers; pale ales, IPAs, imperials, etc are usually available for growler fills and their saison, barrel aged beers are usually in bottles. On one of my last visits they had Florence available in growlers and I grabbed one.
This beer has an amazing color and a fluffy white head. I love the unfiltered yellow/orange of Hill Farmstead’s beers. The aroma has some lemon and plenty of natural, earthy wheat. Taste follows the nose with some nice lemon and plenty of wheat malts, maybe just a bit of funk but it is way in the back and certainly not the prominent flavor in this excellent saison.
Most people think of the hoppy pales and IPAs when they think of Hill Farmstead but Shaun is making some of the very best saisons available. If you focus on growlers when you visit Greensboro take some time on your next visit to grab a couple of bottles and let me know what you think.

Brewers Description: Florence (1915-1967) was our grandfather’s sister, and Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to her and her 13 siblings. In her honor, this Belgian inspired Wheat ale is crafted from American malted barley, Organic Vermont wheat, European and American hops, our distinctive farmhouse yeast and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. Soft, cloudy, and fresh, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Florence. 5% ALC/VOL 12º P Ingredients: Pale Malt; Vermont Organic Wheat; American and European Hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.
