Before I even start the review of this beer let me say this may be the best beer available in a 6-pack. If you can think of one that compares let me know as I cannot think of any as I write this post.
Lagunitas is new to Maine as they only started distributing here in 2012 and in the winter of 2013 we were treated to our first batch of Lagunitas Sucks. Mainers went through lots and lots of this beer with most beer stores selling out in days. Fortunately for us the cases kept coming and even today you may be able to find a 6-pack or two around.
This beer has a great color, thick white head and amazing aroma with loads of piney and citrus hops. Taste has lots of hops like the smell with only a hint of grainy malts coming in at the end. Alcohol is there but no burn and finishes slightly bitter. Overall this is an excellent double IPA that is drinkable anytime.
Pros: Very flavorful and inexpensive
Alcohol Content: 7.85% ABV
IBU (Bitterness): ??
Brewers Website: Lagunitas
Brewers Description: E.K. Ross would have enjoyed our suffering in 2010 when we saw we couldn’t brew our BrownShugga. But in that time of deepest despair, as is common to artists everywhere…. broke, hungover, abandoned by the muse and prepared to take a job at Arby’s, we found in that darkness the spark of inspiration that would yield up this nearly sanctified recipe!
Originally brewed in 2011 as a Brown Shugga’ substitute, due to construction-induced capacity issues. But we liked it so much it had to make a return trip.
